"Valor House"

WAKE was commissioned by the owners of "Valor House" to undertake a transformative restoration of this historic gem, tasked with infusing the property with a singular, enduring vision that would honor its rich legacy while ensuring its vitality for the next century. The challenge was to breathe new life into a storied farmhouse, originally built in the 1880s, that had once served as a summer retreat for prominent figures like Harold Ickes and hosted luminaries such as Eleanor Roosevelt.

WAKE approached the project with a deep respect for the architectural heritage of the building, preserving its historic integrity while carefully introducing contemporary elements that would enhance its functionality and longevity. The design sought to celebrate the farmhouse's past while making it relevant for modern living—combining timeless craftsmanship with subtle modernizations that ensure the structure remains robust and adaptable for future generations.

The restoration included a meticulous renovation of the original materials, from the hand-hewn beams and weathered stone to the intricate woodwork that reflects the farmhouse's historical craftsmanship. Every effort was made to salvage and restore key architectural elements while integrating modern energy efficiency systems and sustainability features that would align with contemporary standards without disrupting the building's historic charm.

WAKE's vision for Valor House blends the old with the new, preserving its role as a peaceful retreat while infusing it with the comforts and innovations of today's world. By respecting its storied past and preparing it for the future, Valor House stands as a testament to enduring design, ready to serve as a retreat for generations to come—just as it once did for its famous visitors.
